Mount Brandon Pottery School

GIFT VOUCHERS AVAILABLE

The next four-week pottery course starts on Tuesday, 17.12.2024 (7 – 9 pm)

At Mount Brandon Pottery School, I offer a variety of pottery classes covering handbuilding techniques as well as throwing on the potter’s wheel.

Mount Brandon Pottery School is located on the stunning grounds of Mount Brandon self-catering Holiday Cottages, a mere 5 minutes’ walk from the medieval town of Graiguenamanagh.

The village is only an hour and a half drive from Dublin and is nestled between the scenic Brandon Hill and the beautiful Barrow River Valley. The pottery school is run by Carmen Wenner, a qualified potter, who is registered with the Crafts Council of Ireland.

Carmen has many years’ experience teaching pottery classes. She specializes in hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics. In July 2013 Carmen opened her purpose-built pottery studio where she teaches children and adults the craft of pottery.

Students learn how to make pinch pots, coil pots and slab building as well as how to throw a pot on the electric potter’s wheel. After bisque firing the pieces are decorated and then glaze fired. The pottery classes are small in order to give each student maximum attention. Courses vary in length to suit individual requirements.

Choose from a 2-hour taster class (if you’ve never done pottery before) or a four-week course to gain more insight into the art of pottery (when you’ve been bitten by the clay bug). It can become an addictive hobby. The pottery classes are available for all age groups and skill levels.

If you love ceramics but don’t have the time to attend a pottery class yourself, visit the studio to browse – you might just fall in love with a one of a kind creation made by Carmen.

Enjoy!!

Myself and my mum had a workshop with Carmen and from the minute we started until we left we had a great time. Carmen is a wonderful teacher and person and made us feel so welcome. We really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be coming again!

Carmen is a wonderful tutor. Myself and 3 friends did a 2 hour work shop. We had a ball creating individual pieces using a variety of tools and methods. We also threw clay on the wheel to make little dishes in Carmen’s well lit studio. Definitely a place to visit!

Carmen did a pottery lesson with our family of four during our recent holiday. It was age appropriate and fun for our 6 and 4 year olds (and my wife and I). Great time together with the family. Highly recommended!

I would highly recommend this as an afternoon’s activity when visiting Graiguenamanagh
